Finishes Library · Custom Metal Finishes

The finishes we actually apply, in one reference. Every entry below is a process used on fixtures in our current range, listed with the base material it is applied to and the tone it produces. It exists because finish names are the least reliable part of buying lighting online — the same word covers very different surfaces.

Metal finishes

Finish family How it is made Applied to Tones available
Electroplated Metal deposited onto the part in a plating bath, then sealed Steel, stainless steel, iron, alloy Gold, brass, chrome, nickel, silver
Vacuum electroplating (PVD) Metal deposited in a vacuum chamber; a harder, more wear-resistant layer than bath plating Stainless steel, alloy Gold, brass, black, copper
Chrome plated Chrome over a prepared metal base Steel, alloy Chrome, silver
Painted finish Sprayed and cured; the same process used for custom colour matching Iron, steel, wood Matte black, gloss white, any RAL reference
Wrought iron, electroplated Hand-formed ironwork, then plated over the formed profile Iron Antique black, bronze, brass
Brushed and polished Mechanical grain or mirror polish worked into the metal itself, with no coating Stainless steel, brass, aluminium Natural metal tone

Crystal and glass

Material What it is How it reads
K9 crystal Optical-grade crystal with a controlled refractive index, cut and polished in house Bright, precise refraction; the clearest option we supply
Hand-blown glass Formed by mouth at the furnace, so no two pieces are dimensionally identical Softer diffusion with visible movement in the glass
Art glass Coloured, textured or layered glass produced as a decorative element Colour and texture as part of the design, not just diffusion

Reading a finish name

Finish names describe colour and surface treatment, not the base material. Where a listing says “Brass” or “Gold”, that is the colour of the surface, not solid brass or solid gold. The actual substrate — steel, stainless steel, iron, alloy — is stated in the specification table on every product page.

How finish is fixed on your order

  1. Chosen from the range for a listed model, or specified to a reference for custom work.
  2. Recorded on the approval drawing set, together with material, sheen and the parts the finish applies to.
  3. Confirmed on a physical panel where the colour is custom, and approved in writing before production starts.
  4. Held against the batch through finishing, then photographed on the finished piece before packing.

Request a physical sample

Photographs help you shortlist; only a sample tells you whether a finish belongs in the room. Send us the model or the colour you are considering and we will arrange a panel or a component sample, alongside the lead time and any cost that applies.

Request a finish sample on WhatsApp, or email airmorrowlighting@gmail.com. If you already hold a colour code, see custom colour matching for how the approval process runs.
